Fairfax County Looks to Realign School Boundries

westcoboundarystudy.jpegFairfax County wants to balance population disparities in it’s schools by  realigning its boundaries. One of it’s main ideas is getting rid of the Madison High School island, which sits in the middle of the South Lakes district. South Lakes currently has 800 open seats (after renovations) and when compared to other bordering high schools has more lower income students. According to the Reston Connection, many non-Reston residents don’t want the boundaries realigned, as they sight lower test scores, and more violent incidents. The county believes more balanced demographics would correct those issues.

To the right are the current school boundaries, with South Lakes in pink, and the Madison island in light purple.
